Dorene Louise was born July 31, 1923, the middle child of seven born to Ernest and Louise (Mueller) Belz at Diesem, ND in LaMoure County. She was reborn as a child of God in the waters of Holy Baptism on November 27, 1923. On August 8, 1937, she was confirmed in the Christian faith and was fed the life-giving body and blood of Jesus.

After her schooling, Dorene was employed at St. Luke’s Hospital in the kitchen department, the Little Brownie Bakery and Woolworth’s in Fargo. She moved to Walla Walla, Washington and was united in holy marriage to John P. Anderson on June 17, 1944. God also blessed Dorene and John with the gift of a child, Laurel. They later returned to the LaMoure and Fullerton area. Dorene worked on the farm and then for Al & Pearl Anderson at Gamble’s Hardware and the Senior Center in LaMoure. John and Dorene were blessed with 49 years of married life together before John died on May 6, 1994. In 2011, Dorene became a resident of St. Rose Care Center, where God called her home to heaven on December 18, 2016. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

Dorene was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church, LWML, and was an active Sunday and Bible School teacher and helped pastor with confirmation. Dorene enjoyed working for Senior Companions until she was 82 years old. She loved visiting and driving for them and was amazed that she got paid for it.

She is survived and will be missed by her daughter Laurel (Charles) Drenth; two grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Erma Belz and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, three older siblings, Bill (Peg) Belz, Robert Belz and Ada Paul-Willersen and her three younger siblings, Mable (Lester) Saufty, Elaine (Axel) Nelson and Ralph Belz.

Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 26, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church of LaMoure. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery near LaMoure.
