Dan was born in Palatka and had lived for most of his life in Putnam County, having lived in Francis and later in Satsuma for the past 31 years. Dan worked as a truck driver for wholesale flower growers in Welaka and the surrounding area, including Shamrock Wholesale Flowers in Satsuma and Shuman's Wholesale Flowers in DeLeon Springs. He was also with Hitchcock Grocers until his retirement due to diability in 2009. He was a loving husband and father who was devoted to his family. He loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, traveling, crossword puzzles and antique collecting.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Frank Benka and Arlean Benka. His in-laws, Windle and Irma Wilkinson.
Surviving are his loving wife of 42 years, Shirley Wilkinson Benka of Satsuma; one son, D. J. Benka of Satsuma; one sister, Melody Hilton of Welaka; nieces, nephews and many other family who will miss him.
