Passed peacefully away at the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavillion in the presence of his loving family, World War II Veteran and member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch #56) originally from Blackhead, Conception Bay North, age 91 years. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie (nee Powers) in 1997; and son-in-law, Robert Budgell in 2010. Leaving to mourn, children: Barbara Budgell of Grand Falls-Windsor, Bill (Gladys) of St. John’s, Tony (Brenda) of St. John’s, Bonnie (Jamie Schwartz) of Corner Brook, and Sherry Lee (Kerry Thorne) of St. John’s; grandchildren: Tony Jr., Megan, Rebecca, Jeremy, Jenna, Luke, Vanessa, Anna, Adam; great-grandchild, Benjamin; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Ross worked with the Federal Dept. of Fisheries until retirement; specifically with Small Craft Harbours, where he travelled the coast of Newfoundland helping communities acquire wharfs and breakwaters. Special thank you to the staff of the Veterans Pavillion for the wonderful care they provided for Dad. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, on Saturday, January 3, from 7-9pm and on Sunday, January 4, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held from Barrett’s Funeral Chapel on Monday, January 5, 2015, at 2:00pm, with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Newfoundland and Labrador Alzheimer Society or the (Broad Cove United Church) Oceanview United Church Memorial Fund, Broad Cove, Conception Bay North, NL.
