Age 80, of Colonial Heights, Wilmington, beloved mother and grandmother, died on June 28, 2011.

A native of Wilmington, Cora was the daughter of the late Henry and Cora Whittaker and was a 1949 graduate of Pierre S. duPont High School.

With her late husband, she co-founded American Van & Storage Corp., a local transportation company, where she committed 52 years of her life working to make and keep the business thriving. In addition, Cora had 27 years of experience, first as a client, then as an employee of Weight Watchers in the north Wilmington area. Work was a huge part of her life, and with both American Van & Storage and Weight Watchers, Cora worked until 3 weeks prior to her death. Cora also had a strong faith and was a forty year member of Immanuel Episcopal Church, Highlands, where she had served on the Altar Guild Committee. Her other interests and hobbies included hosting family holiday gatherings, cruising the Caribbean, her pool, and especially, supporting her beloved PHILLIES.

Cora is survived by her two children: Thomas Bennett III (Glen Esther) and A. Denise Cooper; 5 grandchildren: Tamara I. Quirk (Marc), Corin D. DeCubellis (Timothy), Thomas Bennett, IV (Kristen), Sarah L. Cooper and Amanda B. Cooper; 6 great-grandchildren: Kylie, Camryn, Samantha, Sydney, Wyatt and Whitney; and 1 brother, Henry Dean Whittaker (Barbara).

A viewing will be held from 6-8 pm, Friday, July 1 at the MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville (Route 202, south of Silverside Rd.). The funeral service for Cora will be held at 10 am, Saturday, July 2 at Immanuel Episcopal Church, Highlands, 17th St. and Riverview Ave., followed by interment at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery. The family suggests honoring the memory of Cora E. Bennett by sending a contribution to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810.
