HINTON - Martha Marie Adkins, 79, died at 8:50 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2001, in Summers County Continuous Care Center, Hilldale, following a long illness.

Born Sept. 18, 1921, in Pluto, Raleigh County, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Sadie Bennett.

Mrs. Adkins was a lifelong resident of Summers and Raleigh counties and a member of Sandstone Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Seymore Adkins, on March 6, 1982; and a son, Emery Adkins, on Feb. 14, 1999.

Survivors include six sons, Benny Andrew Adkins of Richmond, Va., Grover Lee Adkins of Shady Spring, Seymore and Sylvin Adkins of Freezeland Mountain, and Elmore and James Reo Adkins of Hinton; three daughters, Juanita Carol Berry of Freezeland Mountain, Nina Jean Carroll of Richmond and Mary Marie Crook of Hinton; two brothers, Noah Bennett of Abraham and Bobby Bennett of Beckley; four sisters, Goldie and Faye Plumley of Abraham, Vergie Plumley of Beckley and Rhoda Adkins of Hinton; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Eddie Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow in Adkins Family Cemetery, Freezeland Mountain. Friends may call noon until time of service Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements by Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors, Hinton.
