Mary T. Abbott, 78, a longtime resident of Linden Apartments in Sanford, died at Goodall Hospital.

Mary was born in Burlington, Vermont one of six children born to Raymond and Kathryn (Foley) Benoit.

Following high school, Mary met and married Harrison Abbott, and together they raised six children, and made their home in Hartford, Connecticut, but lived in Waterboro, Maine for a brief period, and she often shared her story of the Friday night ritual of going to the Laundromat, and eating out at Jerry's Diner in Sanford.

Mary possessed a fun, and loving spirit; she enjoyed going to Old Orchard Beach, listening, and singing, country music and was an avid reader. Spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her great joy. Mary looked forward to going out with her girlfriends, and the good natured rivalry that comes with playing Bingo.

Mary was a member of the VFW and AMVETS, and she enjoyed a lifelong friendship with Red and Ginny Moulton. She shared many wonderful years with her companion, Lloyd Ramaker, of Hartford, until his passing in 2004.

She is survived by three daughters, Susan Barnum and her companion Dennis Gilcrest of Wethersfield, CT; Virginia (Missy) Lovette and husband Ray of Acton; Lisa Blanchette and husband Thomas of Sanford; and one "honorary daughter," Sherri Jordan of Sanford; her three sons, David Abbott and wife Deborah of East Hartford, CT; Bruce Abbott of East Hartford, CT; and Lance Abbott and wife Cindy of Portland, CT; her three sisters, Joan of Sanford, ME; Dorothy of Newington, CT and Connie of FL; and one brother, Raymond Benoit of Wallingford, CT; and 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harrison Abbott in 1978, and by two sisters, and one brother.

Pastor Mimi Mills officiated.

Interment at Pine Grove South Cemetery, in Waterboro.

In Mary's memory, you may send flowers for the service or donate to one of her favorite charities, the American Heart Association, 51 US Route One, Scarborough, ME 04074 or to the American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State Street, Augusta, ME 04330.
