Bernt Johan Bentsen, 93, of Brick, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at home. Born in Lista, Norway, he lived in Staten Island, N.Y. prior to moving to Brick 25 years ago. He was employed as a dredge operator with Great Lakes Dredging of Staten Island for 30 years until his retirement. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Johan is survived by his wife, Gudrun Solvold Bentsen; two sons, John Bentsen of Tabernacle, and Kenneth Bentsen of Georgia; a daughter, Janet Soler of Long Island, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Chad, Christopher, Amanda, Brandon, Allan, and Melina; and three great-grandchildren, Chase, Natalia, and Cassandra.
Arrangements were private and under the direction of Cremation Service of Ocean, Brick.
