Richard "Berky* Berkenpas Jr., 51, a Rock Valley businessman, died Saturday in Hegg Memorial
Hospital, Rock Valley.
Mr. Berkenpas was born June 13, 1932, in LeMars, Iowa.
He was an Army paratrooper in the Korean
War.
He married Shirley Cannegieter December 16, 1955, in Rock Valley. They lived in Sioux Center, where he worked at the furniture store, until moving to Rock Valley in 1960. Mr. Berkenpas was a partner in the Rock Valley Furniture store and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the volunteer fire department.
Survivors include his wife; two sons: Kevin and Rick, both of Rock Valley; two daughters: Cindy, Sioux City, and Kerri, at home; three brothers: Alden, Mapleton, Iowa, Carl, Ashton, Iowa, and Merlin, Sioux City; and a sister, Mrs. Robert (Leone) Eidsme, Sioux City.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Pioneer United Methodist Church, Rock Valley, with burial in the Valley View Cemetery, RockValley.
