Marianne Wassenaar, age 57, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Marianne was born on January 13, 1956, in Orange City, the daughter of Leonard and Anna Marie (Scholten) Berkenpas. She was raised at Carnes and Alton, where she graduated from the Floyd Valley High School.

On September 19, 1981, she married Bryan Dean Wassenaar in Alton. They made their home on an acreage near Orange City. Their marriage later ended, but she continued to live on the acreage. She was employed by K-Products in Orange City for 24 years. In 2012, she moved into Orange City.

Ms. Wassenaar was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday school classes and participated in Bible studies. She enjoyed her cats, flower gardening, and music from the 1970s.

Survivors include her son, David Wassenaar, and her daughter and her husband, Anna and Andrew De Wild, all of Sheldon; three brothers and their wives, Roger and Janice Berkenpas, of Fair Oaks, California, James and Sharon Berkenpas, of Sioux Center, and Phillip and Cheryl Berkenpas, of Orange City; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Berkenpas, of Spencer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Berkenpas.
