Goldyn B. Balaban, 82, died May 31, 2000.
Mrs. Balaban, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., was the widow of Paul Balaban. She was a member of Temple Israel in Norfolk. In her younger years, she was very active in the community, volunteering at Norfolk General Hospital and she was instrumental in bringing the Beth Sholom Home Nursing Center to the Tidewater area. She was also a lifetime member of Hadassah, and active member in the Beth El Sisterhood and the Hebrew Ladies Charity.
Survivors include her two sons, Alan Balaban and his wife, Michaella, of Norfolk, David Balaban and his wife, Joan, of Virginia Beach; and five grandchildren, Randy, Lori, Melissa, Jody and Evan.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Cemetery by Rabbi Micheal Panitz and Cantor Elihu Flax. Following graveside services Friday, the family will receive friends at 7428 Decreny Circle in Norfolk, and also on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3232 Stapleford Chase in Virginia Beach.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Beth Sholom Home of Eastern Virginia, 6401 Auburn Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23464. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
