Rae Berger, aka Rae-Rae, Mom, Gma, passed away at the age of eighty-five on March 9, 2010 at Kaiser Hospital in Irvine, California. She was also known as Rochelle and then Rachel in her early years. She passed away after a long battle with emphysema. Her family was with her.

Rae was born in Buffalo, New York on April 14, 1924 as the youngest of six children. Her parents were Barney Berman and Alice Kushner of Odessa, Russia. The family moved to California in the 1930's. She spent most of her years at the family home in Hollywood Hills, California.

Rae enlisted as a Wave in the United States Navy in 1944 and was Honorably Discharged in 1946 with the rank of Seaman 1c. With the help of their dear friend Bernard Hoffman, she met, fell in love with, and then married Jay Solmon Berger on September 4, 1948 in Los Angeles, California. They had two loving sons, Bruce and David.

Rae lived in Laguna Woods, California for 21 years with her beloved Jay who passed in 1996 on the first day of spring. Rae had a profound love of people, especially her family. She always went out of her way to give what she could rather than to her own self. Rae valued family above all else.

She is survived by Bruce, his wife Laurie and their children Kristin and Zachary. Also in this line are Kristin's husband David Fishter and Rae's great-grandsons Jacob and Joshua. Zachary is married to his wife Stevi and Rae's great-grandson Mason Jay Berger. David Berger is married to his wife Silvia and they have a daughter Jessica, at who's Bat Mitzvah, Rae was able to attend and hold the Torah for the first time. She has one living sibling, Bertha Taube, who is ninety-six; they were very close and dear to each other. At one point, there were eleven nieces and nephews, ten grand-nieces and nephews, and four great-grand nieces and nephews. She will be missed terribly and loved tremendously by all of us.
