SOUTH BEND - Ann Berntsen, 82, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, in the Sanctuary at St. Paul's. Ann was born on March 13, 1931, in Glasgow, Scotland, to William and Mary (Shaw) Vandermotten Sr. On April 14, 1952, in Wichita, Kansas, she married Gerard "Jerry" L. Berntsen, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Dr. Mary (Daniel) Olguin of Tijeras, New Mexico, and Janice (Daniel) Saros of Mishawaka, Indiana; two sons, Paul G. (Paula) Berntsen of Brownsburg, Indiana, and Mark A. (Kristie) Berntsen of Jacksonville, Florida; eight grandchildren, Shaun (Sarah) Armon of Fort Collins, Colorado, Joshua (Amber) Berntsen of Wesley Chapel, Florida, Elizabeth Berntsen of Jacksonville, Florida, Brenna (Christopher) Murphy of Libertyville, Illinois, Allison Berntsen of Glendale, Arizona, Benjamin Berntsen of South Bend, Indiana, Jillian Saros of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Jamie Saros of Mishawaka, Indiana; six great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Kolby, Kolton and Keegan Armon of Fort Collins, Colorado, Aretta Berntsen of Wesley Chapel, Florida, and Olivia Berntsen of Jacksonville, Florida; and two brothers, Ronnie (Carol) Vandermotten of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and John (Gig) Vandermotten of Salina, Kansas. Ann was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Friends may call from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, in the Sanctuary at St. Paul's. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel at Sanctuary at St. Paul's. Friends may also call on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Ann was a member of Holy Cross Parish and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of Corvilla. Ann touched many lives with her genuine heart and kindness. She devoted her life to being a wonderful mom and grandmother. She will be dearly missed and forever loved by all of her friends and family.
