ROCK SPRINGS Cora M. Berta, 97, a lifelong resident of Rock Springs, died Monday, May 9, 2005, at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County where she had been a patient for six days. She had been in ill health for the past eight months.

She was born Dec. 25, 1907, in Rock Springs, the daughter of Mabel Clark and Henry Morris Beveridge.

Mrs. Berta attended schools in Rock Springs and Pasadena, Calif., and St. Marys Academy in Ogden, Utah. She was a graduate of St. Marys Academy and Rock Springs High School.

She married George T. Berta in Rock Springs on Aug. 24, 1936. Her husband preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1987. They had a son and a daughter.

Mrs. Berta was a bookkeeper all of her working life, first with J.C. Penney for 10 years, then for her husbands business, The Berta Transfer Company, and finally for City Auto Sales for 19 years.

Her interests centered on her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Does. She was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community and attended Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church since her marriage. She kept up on current events, avidly reading the newspaper and watching news on television. She also played cards. She was a patriotic citizen that came about when her brothers served in World War II. She wrote a letter to each one of them every week. She voted in every election, the last few by absentee ballot when she couldnt go to the polls.

Survivors include a son, Victor Berta; and a daughter, Dorothy Overy; two grandchildren, Natalie and Stewart Miller of Rock Springs and Nathan Overy of Rock Springs; two great-grandchildren, Marion and Christina Miller of Rock Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; eight brothers, Henry, Jack, Robert, Wallace, Art, Charles, George and infant Beveridge; and three sisters, Lucille, Florence and Gertrude.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, at the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 116 Broadway Ave., Rock Springs. The Rev. Killian Muli will officiate. A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2005, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Interment will be in the Paul J. Wataha Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Vase Chapel Friday afternoon and evening until 8 p.m. and again Saturday at the Vase Chapel until time of services.
