Biddle—Mrs. Ann Eliza Anderson Biddle, aged 89, widow of the Hon. Richard Biddle, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. McIlvaine, in Shady avenue, on Wednesday, from old age, after a short illness. She was a daughter of John Anderson, one of the pioneer iron merchants of Pittsburgh. She married Richard Biddle, one of the prominent members of the Allegheny county bar and a leader in local politics. He was elected to represent this district in congress. and served with distinction until his death in 1848, after which Mrs. Biddle went to Philadelphia to live. Three years ago she returned to Pittsburgh to reside with her daughter, who is the wife of the Rev. Dr. J. H. McIlvaine, rector of Calvary Protestant Episcopal church, Shady avenue and Walnut street, East End. Despite her advanced age, Mrs. Biddle was singularly strong and robust up until about three months ago, when she became blind and deaf. Throughout her life she was a member of the Protestant Episcopal church and during her residence in Pittsburgh she was affiliated with Trinity church. She was also a member of several charitable organizations and gave largely to the poor, to the relief of the sick and, to missionary societies. She leaves one son, Richard Biddle, of Suwanee, Tenn.; one daughter, Mrs. McIlvaine, and one sister.
