George Billinger, Jr. passed away 27 Oct 2009 after a brief illness.
He was born 18 June 1926 in Oxnard, CA to Dorothy and George Blllinger and always proud of his family's long history in Ventura County.
Upon graduation from Oxnard High School in 1944, where he was student body president, George served his country during WWII in the Army Air Force, sparking a life-long interest in aviation.
Following his military service, George attended the University of California, and returned to Oxnard where he met and married Jualine Lane.
They had 3 children and George began a successful career in sales and marketing with Sylvania. His career took them to Los Angeles, CA, San Diego, CA, Orange County and then across the country to Michigan and Massachusetts, but his Ventura County roots always called to him.
In 1970 he returned to run the family business, Billinger Elecctric, located in downtown Oxnard. Later George enjoyed a career as a ship's agent for Del Monte Corporation.
George was foreman of the Ventura County Grand Jury from 1996-1997. He was also active in the Ventura Dance Club, serving as its president, he was also a member of the Saticoy Country Club.
Jualine passed away in 1987.
George subsequently remarried, and upon retirement relocated to the Central Coast area, finding it much like Ventura County during his youth.
A musician and music aficionado, George was active in a central coast jazz society, the Basin Street Regulars, and organized their annual jazz festival, the Jubilee by the Sea. He was the President of the Black Lake Association Board, committee chairman for the Nipomo Community Services Organization and a member of the San Luis Obispo Sheriff's Auxiliary.
An accomplished cook and master griller, Big George loved good food and a dry martini, Angel's baseball, flying, a good laugh, WWII history, Ventura County and his family.
He is survived by his son, George III; daughter Amy Fager; son Tom ; sister Barbara Henriksen as well as 5 grandchildren Alex, Caitlin, Amelia, Jacob, and Carly.
