Mrs. Hazel I. Ballou, 86, a resident of the Palatine Nursing Home and former Dolgeville resident, died Friday, July 24, 2009, in St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after a brief illness.

Hazel was born in Staten Island, New York, on December 11, 1922, the daughter of Fred and Nina (Bunn) Bishop and was educated in schools in Staten Island.

Her marriage to Herbert M. Ballou took place on December 20, 1939, in Mayfield, New York. Mr. Ballou predeceased her on May 26, 1985.

Hazel was employed at one time at Beech-Nut Foods in Canajoharie, retiring from there in 1980.

While residing in the Dolgeville - Little Falls area, she was involved with the "Grandparent Program" at Benton Hall School in Little Falls.
