He married Elizabeth Pitchford on December 5, 1860. She was with child when he left for the Civil War. Thomas Adam Black was their only child. Adam died of dysentery in a Helena AK hospital per his Civil War Records. He was buried "near" Helena AK. Then he was reburied in the National Cemetery in Memphis TN.
