Doris Jean Black Anthony, 78, of Dade City, Fla., formerly of Craigsville, a loving mother and wife, went to be with the Lord Sunday after suffering a massive stroke.
Born Jan. 5, 1929, she was the daughter of Howard J. and Eva M. Black of Fenelton.
She retired after 30 years as postmaster of the Worthington Post Office. After her retirement, she and her husband moved to Dade City, where she lived for 15 years.
During her life, she was an active member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States, the American Legion, the fire department auxiliary, the Buffalo Valley Beagle Club Auxiliary, the Lady Rebeccas, the Alamo Squares, the Southfork Women's Club and the Red Hat Society. She also was a hospital volunteer.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol Ann Good of Seminole, Fla., and Linda Marie Baker of Salem, Va.; her twin brother, Donald E. Black of Chicora; a brother-in-law, Glenn Anthony and his wife, Deloris, of Worthington; a sister-in-law, Leona Shearer and her husband, Charles, of Dade City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chart Norman Anthony, who died in February 1997, after 49 years of marriage; two brothers, Harold "Hud" and Kenneth Black; and a sister Marie Snyder.
She will be sadly missed but always in the hearts of family and friends.
ANTHONY - Friends of Doris Jean Black Anthony, who died Sunday, July 29, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the F. Duane Snyder funeral Home, 424 Bear St., Worthington. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jonathan Speck officiating. Burial will be at Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington.
