Blackie was a Cocker Spaniel my mother had when she was 9 years old. I think it was her first dog that was not a part of her father's hunting dog pack. Blackie was run over by a car on Friday the 13th, devastating my mother especially since while searching for him a man pulled up in a car and said "if you're looking for your dog he's dead in the road up ahead". A cruel way to tell a child her dog was gone.
