She was born about 1843 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In 1854, with her parents and one sister she went to California. Soon after arrival her mother died and her father sent the two girls back to relatives in Michigan. He then died leaving them orphans.

She was married to Frank Baldwin in 1867 and they had one daugher Juanita "Nita,"

They had trouble making ends meet on his military salary at the time and so there were periods that Allie and Nita stayed with Michigan relatives.

After Frank's death she tried to get his life story published and finally accomplished this in 1929.

Her own memoirs were also publish as "An Army Wife of the Frontier..Memoirs of Alice Blackwood Baldwin."

Alice died 17 Dec 1930 near Santa Monica, Calif Her husband Frank died 22 Apr 1923 in Denver
