Pauline Belle Blake Johnson was born on June 3, 1893 in Fargo, ND to Edward Stuart Blake and Frances Marion "Kate" Himrod Blake. Pauline received her B.S. and M.A. in Fine Arts and Fine Arts Education at Columbia University and studied under Arthur Wesley Dow. She was an accomplished artist as well as an art instructor at various educational institutions including the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts. She married Percy Franklin Johnson in 1930 and they had one child, Frank Blake Johnson who died in a motorcycle accident at the age of 24. Pauline died in June 1966 at the age of 73.
