Fond du Lac Reporter, Wed. July 18, 1979, p. 28:3. Leo S. “Shorty” Blatz, 75, of 5 E. Division St., former operator of The Ratskeller, died at 8:45 a.m. Tue. July 17, 1979, at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born Mar. 4, 1904, in the Town of Forest, a son of the late Joseph and Anna Marie Simon Blatz. Mr. Blatz was formerly employed by Hutter Construction Co. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Third Order of St. Francis, Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society. Survivors include two brothers, Edwin of Fond du Lac and Jerry of Dotyville; and two sisters, Mrs. Alvina Reed of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. James (Bernice) Blackmore of Armstrong. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church. The Rev. Ernest Dreher, the Rev. Joseph Fischer and the Rev. Ralph Ott will officiate. Entombment will take place in Shrine of Rest Chapel Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Blatz will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
