Mary Umpleby Blood
(March 14, 1916 - April 3, 2013)

Our beautiful angel mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Mary Umpleby Blood departed to her heavenly home on April 3, 2013. She was 97. Mary was living with her loving son and daughter in law Michael and Kathleen Blood in Layton Utah. With heartfelt gratitude our family pays tribute to them.

Mary was born on March 14, 1916 high up in the Oquirrh Mountains of Bingham Canyon, Utah, in a little mining town called Highland Boy. Her parents were Lucy Steed and William Howard Umpleby. She later lived in Salt Lake City, and Clearfield Utah.

She was sealed for eternity to Philip Claude Blood on March 17, 1936 in the Salt Lake temple. This began the story of a truly devoted and deeply in love couple. Through good times and bad they were loyal and true to each other and rarely did you see one without the other. It was always "Mary and Phil". Our hearts are happy for her as she is now reunited with him and many other loved ones, including her father who passed away in a mining accident when she was only 4.

Mary lived a full and productive life. She was a talented pianist and served the community of Clearfield as "the" piano teacher. She taught in her home for over 30 years, teaching as many as 45 students a week.

She was a devoted and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many callings. She knew the scriptures and we all looked to her for her spiritual discernment and gospel knowledge. She blessed our lives with her positive encouragement and hopeful heart.

Among her choicest church service was when she was able to fulfill a full time 18 month mission with her sweetheart Phil to Paris, Illinois. Sept. 19, 1984. They also served together for many years as temple workers in the Ogden Utah temple.

Throughout Mary's life of heartaches and joys one thing was ever consistent, her never ending faith. Her faith endured through all things, she set the example for us all by putting her trust in the Lord. She lived her life by the scriptures. One of her favorites was D&C 123:17, which relays the message to "Cheerfully do all that lies within your power and then stand still to see the arm of the Lord revealed." This was truly Mary Blood.

Another hallmark of Mary's life was her joy at being a mother. Of all her talents this was her priority and she did it very well.

She is survived by her children Luanna Atwood (Jay Arthur), Michael Blood (Kathleen), Kathleen Manafi (Hassan, deceased) (John Wright), William Blood (Joanne), Robert Blood (Dina), Barbara Cook (Robert),Laurel Cudaback (Kent), Derena Bell (Bob). She has 33 grandchildren and 60 great grand children.

She was preceded in death by her husband Philip Blood, her brother William Howard Umpleby, her daughter Patricia, son in law Hassan, and 4 grandchildren.

Consistent with her optimistic attitude was the fact that she called passing away a graduation. Congratulations on your graduation dear Mother!
