Danville- Betty Jane Atwood, 88, of Danville passed away at 8:13 pm on August 6, 2016 surrounded by her family. Betty was born on February 22, 1928 the daughter of Henry Elmer and Marguerite (Brown) Bloomfield in Muncie, IL. She married Billy Vern Atwood on March 22, 1946 in Danville, IL and he preceded her in death on April 22, 2015.

Survivors include three daughters; Vickie (Tom) Edwards, Debbie (George) Burnett and Sherrie (Ron) Shoemaker all of Danville, IL, three sisters; LaVern Gill of Westville, IL, Patty Rudd of Danville, IL and Norma (Charles) Arnett of Culver, IN, seven grandchildren; Craig (Shelly) Edwards of Oakwood, IL, Kimberly (Vince) Savage of Danville, IL, Eric (Tobi) Burnett of Danville, IL, Shawn (Jennifer) Burnett of St Joseph, IL, Shanna (Shawn) Flynn of Colleyville, TX, Clay Shoemaker of Danville, IL and Rosa (Brandon) Lee of Urbana, IL, twelve great grandchildren; Tyler Knight, Abbie Knight, Sadie Edwards, Andy Savage, Thomas Savage, Bryce Burnett, Brennan Burnett, Colin Burnett, Ethan Burnett, Chloe Flynn, Ella Flynn, and Palmer Flynn.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Billy, one daughter; Judith K. Atwood, two brothers; Bill Bloomfield and Jim Bloomfield, three sisters; Mary Young, Annie Cundiff, and LulaBell White.

Betty was a longtime member of the Cedar Grove Church of the Nazarene, where she served in a variety of positions, most notably serving as Secretary for the church board. She was retired from the Food Services Department at the Illiana VA Medical Center in Danville. She enjoyed spending her free time flower and vegetable gardening, mowing the grass and helping her husband farm. She especially loved her family coming home to enjoy her homemade noodles and pies. If you needed help, Betty was there and was known as the “Peacemaker”.
