WILLIAM E. BLUE DIED HERE FRIDAY
Beloved Citizen and Former County Officer passed away at his home near Marion early Friday morning after an illness of ten days. Had served Marion County as sheriff, treasurer and member of the House. A son of a famous sire and a brother of famous Blue brothers, Admiral Victor Blue and Surgeon General Rupert Blue. Came to Marion when a lad and has always been close to our people. Large gathering for funeral services. Interment at Old Cemetery.
MARION - William Evans Blue, former county officer and beloved citizen, died at his home a half mile north of Marion Friday morning at 3 o'clock after an illness of ten days. From the first attack at his heart, about ten days ago, Mr. Blue's physicians and his family held small hope of his recovery, as the attack was acute. Skilled physicians and nurses were employed to bring him relief, but the giant body and indomitable will gradually weakened under the onslaught of disease, and Friday morning all that was mortal of William E. Blue passed beyond the veil.
The funeral services, conducted by Dr. J. M. Holladay, of the Presbyterian Church, Dr. Rufus Ford and Rev. Williams, of Centenary, were held at the residence at 2:45 o'clock Saturday afternoon and a large number of sorrowing people from many parts of this and other counties were present to pay a last tribute of respect to this popular citizen. Immediately after the services at the home the funeral cortege passed through Marion to old Centenary Church, where the remains were interred in the Godbold family plot. Many of Mr. Blue's life-time friends and neighbors served as honorary pall-bearers, while the active pall-bearers consisted of some of his younger friends and kinsmen. A mass of beautiful flowers covered the bier as loved ones sorrowfully turned from the tomb and with tear-dimmed eyes returned to their homes.

Until his voluntary retirement from public life, about ten years ago William E. Blue was one of the most popular and most competent officers of the county. He has served as sheriff, treasurer and as a member of the House. He was successful in some of the most heated campaigns in the history of Marion County, and even tho he made political enemies they always recognized his honesty, his fearlessness and his devotion to duty.
On July 26, 1911 Mr. Blue married Miss Elizabeth Godbold, daughter of the late J. M. and Augusta Richardson Godbold. In addition to his widow this splendid citizen is survived by the following brothers and sisters, Admiral Victor Blue, retired, Surgeon-General Rupert Blue, Mrs. Sallie B. John, Mrs. Ellie Blue Wheeler of Marion, Mrs. Ben Nicholson, of NC and Misses Kate Lily and Henrietta Blue, of this city.
