Bishop Amanda K. Blue (89) of 1066 West Eight Street passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. She was born December 17, 1925 to the late James and Elizabeth Kennedy Coleman.

She and her twin sister were the seventh of ten children. Amanda was reared in the St. Nicholas area where she attended Douglas Anderson Elementary Junior High School and graduated from Stanton High School in the class of 1945. Amanda accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Bishop Blue was ordained in August 1980 receiving her degree in the ministry as well as a Bishop in 2002. In 2012, she was appointed as assistant pastor to her sister Bishop Everlena Dunn, leader and founder of Dunn’s Temple. She also served as the benevolent secretary of the St. Nicholas Cemetery Association. Amanda held many positions in Dunn’s Temple.

Her passion for sewing started at a very young age. She worked the Young Men’s Shop as a tailor where she retired, after holding several other jobs in various professions. Her love for sewing was evident in her fabulous wardrobe that she and her husband wore, such as suits, hats, shirts, coats, so that they would never have to purchase clothing.

On December 17, 1957 she was united in holy matrimony to the late Aaron Blue. To his union, no children were born.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories of love, compassion, kindness, prayer and thought for others to her loving and devoted sister, Bishop Everlena C. Dunn; brother, Harold (Louise) Coleman; two brothers-in-law, Robert Lee and Joseph Blue (J.W.); two sisters-in-law, Geneva Coleman and Geneva Glover; she also leaves behind a devoted niece, Marva C. Andrews; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand, great grand and great great grand nieces and nephews; Amanda’s godchildren include, Ronnie Brazer, Christopher Bentley and Brandon Gray.

Bishop Blue will be laid to rest in the St. Nicholas Cemetery.
