Betty J. Bol, age 81 of Alexandria, died, Friday, December 23, 2011 at her home in Golden Ridge Senior Care in Alexandria.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, January 16th at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Betty J. Bol the daughter of Harry and Hazel (Argo) Schemmel was born December 17, 1930 in Tipton, Iowa. She grew up on their farm with her three older brothers. She attended school in Inwood, Iowa.
Betty was united in marriage to Fredrick Bol on September 10, 1948. They made their home in various places including; Inwood, IA, Coeur d'lene, ID, San Diego, CA, Philadelphia, PA, Little Rock, AR, Rowena, SD, Hills, MN, Glenwood, MN, Apache Junction, AZ, and Kensington, MN. It was said "she could pack a house in a couple of hours." Betty and Fredrick also did a lot of traveling together.
In Betty's younger years she worked as a switchboard operator. She also worked for many years as a fry cook at Wimpy's, the Gingerbread House Cafe, and Kensington Cafe. She worked at Peter's Resort in housekeeping. She took great pride in everything she did.
Betty loved gardening and canned everything she grew. She loved summer fishing and the family took many fishing trips across Minnesota. She was a champion at solitaire and rummy. She loved to listen to music and danced a mean polka. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She had a great zest for life and had a great fighting spirit. Betty passed away, December 23, 2011 at her home in Alexandria.
Betty is survived by her children, Loretta Grippando of Renton, WA, Curt Bol of Pensacola, FL, and LeAnn Anderson of Farwell, MN; grandchildren, Shannon Becker, Christian Becker, Heather Becker, Brandi Lee, Ryan Becker, Caleb Anderson, Kirsta Anderson and Lara Bol; brother, Richard (Eleanor) Schemmel of Inwood, IA; sisters-in-law, Margaret Schemmel, Shirley Schemmel, Helen Bol and Mary Grace Miller; her extended family at Golden Ridge Senior Care in Alexandria; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fredrick in 1998; two infant children, Scott and LaRae; grandson, Sean Becker; and two brothers, Merle and Bill Schemmel.
