A sad accident occurred on Pleasant River Road, about twelve miles from Bridgewater last Thursday afternoon. Mr. Isaiah Baker, with his wife, daughter, and nephew, were in a field getting in hay, when a thunder shower coming in, they took refuge from the rain under a large tree. The lightning struck the tree and came in the midst of the group. Mrs. Baker, who was leaning against the tree, was instantly killed and her daughter was so severely injured as to be insensible for two days, but is now recovering. The others were paralyzed for a time. Mr. Baker managed to crawl towards home and when met by parties who went out to see what was detaining them, was still speechless and could only point out the place where the rest were lying. The sad accident cast a gloom over the district. The funeral of Mrs. Baker which took place on Saturday was largely attended. The family has the sympthy of the whole community with them in their sad bereavement.
