Mother Francis Bachmann, O.S.F., was the Foundress and First Superior General of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia.

Born Anna Maria Boll, the daughter of Wilhelm J. and Magdalena Boll of Wenigumstadt, she married Anton Bachmann in Bavaria, and came to America in 1848. Her husband died at Philadelphia in 1851, leaving her with four young children. She operated a store and hostel for some years with her sister Barbara, and with the support of Bishop John Neumann , they received the habit of St. Francis on April 9, 1855, and took final vows on May 26, 1856. Her two sons were raised by one of her married sisters. One died in the Civil War, and the other became a Catholic priest. Both of Mother Francis' daughters eventually joined the Sisters of St. Francis.

Mother Francis oversaw the initial growth of the congregation, opening schools and hospitals, including St. Mary's Hospital in Philadelphia in 1860, and expanding to New York, until her death from tuberculosis in 1863, at age 38. She was initially buried at St. Peter's Cemetery in Philadelphia where her late husband is interred, and she was reinterred to Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in 1875.
