Dora was born on her parent's farm. She married Heinrich Boll on March 12, 1902. They lived on a farm outside Farwell, Nebraska, until at least 1915. They then moved to St. Paul, Nebraska, to allow the children to attend high school. They bought a large two-storey house and took in about a dozen boarders. They sold the house and moved back to the farm in 1921.
