BEAUMONT - Charles William Bordelon Sr., 68, of Beaumont died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at his residence after a tough battle with pancreatic cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 27, at Broussard's Mortuary, 2000 McFaddin, in Beaumont.
Mr. Bordelon was born Jan. 27, 1934, in Bunkie, La., to Abelous an Adele Bordelon.He graduated from Bunkie High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.He attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute and received a bachelor of fine arts degree in 1958.During his studies, he met the love of his life, June Hoover, and was soon married.He spent many years in newspaper advertising that took him from Lafayette, La., to McAllen, Shreveport, La., and Houston.In 1967, he took the advertising manager's position at the Longview News.In 1977, he accepted the role of advertising director for the Beaumont Enterprise and Journal and worked there until 1984.
Because of his love for art, music, antiques and advertising, he began his own publication called the Antique and Collector's Guide in 1985.He traveled all over Texas and Louisiana making lasting friendships with antique shop owners and auctioneers.He was also an accomplished artist, having painted and sketched numerous works.One such notable work was that he designed the stained glass windows for a church in Reynosa, Mexico.His collection of World War I and World War II posters were shown at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas and a collection of western movie posters will be housed in a museum in Jasper.
Mr. Bordelon is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, June Hoover Bordelon, who was at his side tirelessly throughout his illness.
