Ms.Caroline Bowdler peacefully went to be with the Lord on July 19, 2011. Born in West Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Walter Edward Rhyne and Mamie Lineberger Rhyne. She was a lifelong area resident and a member of West Columbia Evangelical Church.
She had a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina and a Master's in Christian Education from New Orleans Theological Seminary.
She retired from the U.S. Probation Office in Columbia.
She dearly loved her children and grandchildren, loved gardening, birds, reading and crossword puzzles. She volunteered at Lexington Medical Center and had a strong love for the Lord and reading His word.
Surviving are her daughters, Patsy Stewart (Curtis) of Columbia, and Debbie Robin (Joel) of Los Angeles, CA; sons, Gordon Bowdler of Saluda, and David Bowdler of West Columbia; former spouse, Dr. George A. Bowdler, Jr.; sister, Mary Avinger of Santee; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, Harold and Edward Rhyne, and a son, Bruce Bowdler.
In Ms. Bowdler's honor, memorials may be made to West Columbia Evangelical Church, 603 Augusta Street, West Columbia, SC 29169.
WEST COLUMBIA - Funeral services for Caroline Bowdler, 87, of West Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at West Columbia Evangelical Church. Officiating will be Pastors Doug Davis, Chip Watson and Bob Byars. Burial will follow in Celestial Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, July 21 at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia.
