Daughter of Morris Bowers and Lue Story. Married to John Henry Best on June 20, 1907 in Kansas City, Ohio. Their children: Thelma, J. Morris, Carl, Robert, Mary, Helen, Dorothy Lue, and Barbara. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Mabel S. Best, 96, Main Street, Berkshire, died December 20, 1986.

She was born July 4, 1888 in Pomeroy, Ohio, daughter of Morris E. and Lue (Story) Bowers.

She was an elementary educator in Ohio then moved to Berkshire in 1921 where she was a active member of the United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School and was treasurer of the Women's Society.

Surviving are daughters: Mrs. Thelma Jewett, Berkshire, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Gerster, Bainbridge, Mrs. Charles (Helen) Partridge, Mrs. Harold (Barbara) Woodmansee, both Greensboro, N.C., Mrs. David (Dorothy) Snyder, Montrose, Penn.; sons: Carl H. Best, Tonowanda, Robert E. Best, Binghamton; brother, Eugene Bowers, Tiffin, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, John H. Best, in 1962 and son, J. Morris Best in 1979.

Services were held at MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, December 22, 1986, with Rev. Joseph Timlin officiating.

Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Berkshire.
