Born in Cleburne County, Alabama she was a long time resident of Birmingham where she spent many years as an educator in the public schools.
She was known to challenge her students to do their best work and loved preparing them for college.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she also had a servant's heart.
She was a member of Huffman Baptist Church for 42 years where she taught a ladies Bible class for most of those years.
She organized & participated in many mission activities and served the Lord in so many ways through the years.
She loved to read and spent many hours immersed in great literature as well as in Bible study.
She was a mighty prayer warrior as well. She served as the ultimate Christian example to her family and to everyone who knew her.
She will be sorely missed here, but is now "singing around the throne", experiencing the eternal life promised by her Savior.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leo R. and Martha Jane Jones and her husband, John M. Bowie.
She is survived by her son, Richard Bowie (Sharon) and her daughter, Carol Harrelson (Butch), grandsons Jonathan Bowie (Kendra) and Jason Bowie (Miranda) and granddaughters Leah Graham (Ryan), Lydia Lewis (Matt), and Rachel Johnson (Alex) and 5 great grandchildren, Jonah, Berit and Evangeline Bowie, Charlotte Graham and Ava Johnson.
She is also survived by 4 siblings, Sarah Jones Irwin, Houston B. Jones (Betty) Joe M. Jones (Frances) and Barbara Jones Culberson and many nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive friends on Tuesday July 19, 2016 from 1-2 at Ridout's Trussville Chapel with the service at 2 pm.
Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
