Marie H. Baird, 84, of Newark, Vt., passed away Saturday afternoon, July 2, 2011, in Brownington, following a long illness, with her beloved family by her side.

She was born March 13, 1927, in Peterbough, N.H., The daughter of Sidney and Grace Ellsworth Bowler.

While attending Conval High School, Marie had a love for basketball; being so talented at the sport, she was often called the Amazon Woman. After graduating from Conval High School in Peterbough, N.H., she spent many years as a basket maker at the Peterbough Basket Shop.

She married Donald Baird on April 27, 1946, and soon after they developed Baird Paving in Jaffrey, N.H., Where they ran the business for many years , leaving the business to their son in 1986.

Marie loved sharing her time fishing, hunting, admiring the great outdoors with her grandchildren and friends, cleaning in her flower gardens, picking berries, riding her lawn mower with her dog; Sassy, spending precious moments with her house birds, cats and dogs, watching and feeding wild birds and taking long country rides looking for wildlife. She was a talented artist who taught painting, ceramics and arts and crafts. She has spent years of volunteer work including making mittens and hats for the local Santa Fund.


She is predeceased by her husband in 1986, parents, and her best friend Sally Goodwin.
