She was preceded in death by both her parents, 3 brothers: Ewing Wiley, Raymond Wiley and Gerald Wiley; and 1 sister, Juanita Wiley Simpson. Helen is survived by 1 sister, Frances Wylie of Manhattan, New York.
Growing up in Yorkville, TN, she attended Yorkville High School where she was a member of the basketball team.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Herbert Edward Bowman and to this union was born 4 children. She is survived by 1 daughter, Cathy Robertson and husband Carl of Cordova and 3 sons: Ricky Bowman, Sr. and wife Vicky of Coldwater, MS; Jerry Bowman and wife Pamela of Ripley, MS; and Danny Bowman and wife Cynthia of Byron, GA.
Helen was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Theresa Magill, Patricia Bowman, Ricky Bowman, Jr. and wife Cortney, Joseph Bowman, Benjamin Bowman, Brianna Bowman, and Brittany Bowman; along with 9 great-grandchildren.
Although Helen spent most of her married life as a homemaker, she did work outside the home for short periods of time. She served her community as a school crossing guard and a worker at various voter polling stations for the Shelby County Election Commission. She also helped provide for her family by working in the Ammunitions Plant in Walls, MS, Taper Down Fitness Center and was manager of both Little Pigs BBQ Restaurant and HIBoy Restaurant in Whitehaven, TN. She was also self-employed as a Tupperware Dealer for several years.
Helen was baptized into the Church of Christ and was a member of the Coro Lake congregation. Most recently, she attended the Church of Christ in Cordova, Tennessee.
Helen June Wiley Bowman entered her final rest on October 22, 2015 at Grace Healthcare of Cordova at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 3 days. She will be sorely missed by her family and a host of friends.
Her family will celebrate her life with visitation from 10am until the service begins at 11:30am on Monday, October 26 at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Memphis Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org./donate.
