Eldest son of L. L. Bradbury, first husband of the infamous Lucy Banning. John's father, was a highly successful 19th century American businessman, who built his wealth in Mexico's mining industry and by acquiring California real estate. Upon LL's death in 1892, he left a sizable fortune to his wife Simona Martinez, who was a Mexican national, and to their six children.
