Nettie Belle (Braden) Artlip, age 90, of Elliott, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Nettie Belle was born August 8, 1923 near Elliott, Iowa the daughter of Raymond and Ruth (Trued) Braden. She graduated from Elliott High School in 1940 and later went to work in California for Douglas Aircraft. Nettie Belle was united in marriage to Delbert “Dean” Artlip on April 26, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri. While Dean was in the military, they lived in Joplin, Missouri and at Ft. Dix before moving back to Elliott, Iowa. Nettie worked for Thomas D. Murphy Company for many years and also had a long career at the Holiday Inn eventually retiring from Red Coach Inn. She was a long time member of the Elliott Church of Christ, the ONO Club, the Pinochle Club and the 15-20 Year Club at the Murphy Company. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking. She made the best fudge and homemade divinity. Nettie enjoyed watching John Wayne and Shirley Temple movies and visiting with friends wherever she went. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her great granddaughter. Nettie loved all of her family very much.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Dean Artlip; brother: Ralph Braden; sister: Marie Woods; and son-in-law: Ronald Blackman. Survivors include her daughters: Sandra Blackman and Cathy Adams and husband Jerry of Elliott, IA; grandchildren: Daron Blackman and wife Katy of Elliott, IA and Jennifer Blackman of Red Oak, IA; great granddaughter: Kaylee Rae Blackman of Red Oak, IA; brother: John Braden of Red Oak, IA; brother-in-law: Buzz Artlip and wife Elaine of Villisca, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Elliott Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in memory of Nettie Belle.
