Lillian Clare (Jenner) Bradley was born 12 November 1891 in Madison County, Indiana, probably at the home of her grandfather, Rev. Moses German Jenner, and her step-grandmother, Mary (Upp) Jenner in Elwood. The family moved to Iola, Kansas by 1900, where Clare attended school with her sisters, Grace and Bea. Around 1901 Clare's mother divorced her father. Around 1902 her mother remarried. By 1910 her step-father had moved to Leavenworth, Kansas where he was able to find work as a carpenter. It was in Leavenworth that Clare met Leo Nicholas Bradley, a lineman for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. The two were married in 1918 after Leo returned from serving in World War I. Around 1920 Leo received a job transfer and the couple moved to Hammond, Indiana, together with Clare's father, Almond Lewis Jenner. A few years later, probably around the time Clare's mother died in 1927, the couple moved to National City, California, a suburb just south of San Diego, where Leo was employed as a construction foreman. They bought the house at 315 30th St. in which they would live the remainder of their lives.
