Mrs. H. C. Bratton Dies in Hospital
Mrs. Eleanor Bratton, wife of U. S. District Court Judge Howard C. Bratton, died Monday morning in St. Joseph Hospital after a long fight with cancer.
Mrs. Bratton, 47, of 4250 Aspen Ave. NE, had been in the hospital for several weeks prior to her death.
Besides her husband she is survived by one son, Sam Gilbert, of Santa Monica, Calif., and two daughters, Eleanor K. and Jean Marie Bratton, both of Albuquerque.
WHEN NEWS of Mrs. Bratton's death reached the federal courthouse, presiding Judge H. Vearle Payne announced the closing of the probation, bankruptcy and clerk's offices until after the funeral.
Payne also canceled all jury trials scheduled for this week and dismissed approximately 45 jury panelists until next Monday.
Eugene E. Greeson, clerk of the U.S. District Court, said the clerk's office will be open for filing of new suits and bankruptcy petitions only.
A resident of Albuquerque since 1964, Mrs. Bratton was a member of the Aquinas Newman Center Parish, Casa Angelica Women's Guild and the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. She was born and reared in Omaha, Neb.
The Brattons were married in 1947 and moved to New Haven, Conn., where Judge Bratton attended law school at Yale University. From 1951 to 1964, Judge and Mrs. Bratton lived in Roswell.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Newman Center. Private interment will be in Fairview Park Cemetery.
