WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. Ruth Brewer Beck, 81, of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born January 22, 1929 in Forsyth County to Fred M. and Etta Butner Brewer. Mrs. Beck was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She retired from Western Electric and was an avid golfer, winning many local and state tournaments, and a passionate sports fan. Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton E. Beck. Surviving are one sister, Lillian B. Rabb; one brother, James E. Brewer and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. David Smith officiating. There is no stated visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clifton E. and Ruth B. Beck Memorial Fund at the Winston-Salem Foundation, 860 W. 5th St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
