Gladys Block, age 83 of Fairfield, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2009 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. Mrs. Block was born in New Haven., a daughter of the late Samuel and Eva Brody. Along with her husband, Benjamin Block, she owned New Yorker Market in Bridgeport, and later worked for Reads and Howland's Department Stores. Mrs. Block is survived by her beloved husband, Benjamin Block; brother, Herman Brody of Milford; her daughters, Sheila Kavey and her husband, Neil of Fairfield and Sandra O'Brien and her husband, Henry of Tampa, Fla.; her grandson, Sean O'Brien; and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Block was predeceased by her son, Marvin Block. Services will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at 1 p.m. in the Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Rd. Fairfield, internment following at Loyalty Cemetery in Fairfield.
