Mrs. George A. Allard
Mrs. George A. Allard, 47, the former Rita Bronson, of 313 Weeks St., died at Putnam Memorial Hospital late Thursday evening. She had been in frail health for several months.
The daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Griffin) Bronson, she was born in Bennington, Feb 4, 1922. The family moved to North Adams, Mass., when she was a child and she had received her education at St. Joseph grammar school. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School in that city.
She was married to George A. Allard in St. Francis Church in North Adams on March 9, 1937 and they had resided in Bennington since their marriage.
Mrs. Allard was a former Gray Lady at the local hospital. She formerly belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America and was a devout member of Sacred Heart Church.
She had always enjoyed working in ceramics and also took pleasure in knitting. Her home and family had been her primary interests.
Survivors are her husband, a member of the Bennington Water Board; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Andrea) Powers, RN, of Pittsfield, Mass., and Mis Rosemary Allard, junior at the College of St. Joseph the Provider, Rutland; one son, George J. Allard of the faculty and head basketball coach at Burr & Burton Seminary, Manchester; four grandchildren, Kellie Powers, Colleen Powers and Richard C. Powers, all of Pittsfield, Mass., and Brian Allard of Manchester; one brother, Walter M. Bronson of North Adams; one sister, Mrs. Francis (Mary) Horrigan of North Adams; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held at Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday at 9:30 am with a prayer and in Sacred Heart Church at 10 where a Requiem High Mass will be offered.
Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 7 to 9 pm and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
Recitation of the Rosary will be Sunday at 8 pm.
Entombment will be in Park Lawn Chapel with burial to be in this cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in her memory be made to either St. Jude Shrine or to the Heart Fund through the funeral home offices.
