Barberey Starr Brook Atwood, 77, of Little Rock died Friday, November 28, 2014. She was born November 7, 1937 in Washington D.C. to the late Major Charles Mitchell Brooke (USMC Ret.) and Mildred Offterdinger Brooke. Mrs. Atwood served her country as a nurse and after as a nurse anesthetist in the United States Air Force and in the mid 1970's earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Chapman University. She was a volunteer for hospice and worked as a nurse anesthetist for the VA Hospital from 1996 until her retirement on July 31, 2014. She was a military wife for 30 years, supporting her husband, Colonel Daryl Gene Atwood who died in October of 1996 after 37 years of marriage, on addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Atwood was preceded in death by her son, David Glenn Atwood in 1967, her stepmother, Thesa Brooke, her sister, Adair Louise Brooke and brother, Roger Taney Brooke.
Mrs. Atwood is survived by her daughters, Thesa Starr Atwood Roepke and husband Gus of Santa Maria California, her son, Daryl Lawrence Atwood of Crossett and her grandchildren, Cole David Carpenter, Charles Mitchell Carpenter, Cameron Gene Carpenter, Gunnar James Roepke and Ashley Starr Roepke, all of Santa Maria, California.
Graveside services were held Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 1 p.m. in Wardell Memorial Cemetery in Wardell with Military Honors, with Bro. Doug Wahls officiating.
