Services for Mary Elizabeth Brooks (M.E.) Alexander, 80, of Jacksonville, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Benson Memorial C.M.E. Church with minister Pamela Blair, the Rev. Robert Christopher, and James Peoples officiating.
Burial will be in Jacksonville City Cemetery, with the Rev. Vernell Alexander officiating, under the direction of Community Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Mrs. Alexander died Saturday at a Jacksonville nursing home.
She was born Feb. 21, 1922 in Jacksonville (Church Hill). She attended Fred Douglass High School and was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County.
She was a member of Benson Memorial C.M.E. Church.
Mrs. Alexander was an LVN at Nan Travis and Newborn hospitals.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ordia, and son Oliver Wayne.
Survivors include sons, Roy G. Alexander of Denver, Colo., and Mitchell O. Alexander of Kansas City, Mo.; daughters, Lessie J. Thompson of Lee's Summit, Mo., Jacquelyn A. Alexander of St. Louis, Mo., Belinda Griffin of Jacksonville, and Gail Alexander Reed of Dallas; sister, Maril V. Gates of Dallas; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Rashad Griffin, Eddie Gates, Reginald Gates, Chester D. Thompson III, Kenneth W. Gates, Michael Alexander, John L. Alexander, and Billy Charles Brooks.
Honorary pallbearers will be Odell Hinton, Freddie Scott, Ardis Hinton, Louis Horton, Leon Christopher, O.T. Scott Jr., the Rev. Aldophus Hinton, and Kingston Jones.
Family will receive friends and visitors at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday.
