Bernice Brough Black Nov. 8, 1920 – August 24, 2013 Bernice Brough Black was
born Nov. 8, 1920, in Tremonton, Utah, to Owen L. Brough and Ivy Dora Toone
Brough. She was the fourth of seven children, four boys and three girls. She and
her brothers and sisters were raised on the family dairy farm.

Bernice graduated from Utah State University in 1944, with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Education majoring in physical education and minoring in physiology
and music. Music was in her life from the time she was very young and she would
continue to sing and perform in church and in the communities she lived in, the
rest of her life.

While going to school at USU, she met her future husband, Harold Black. They
were married Oct. 15, 1944, while Harold was stationed on Bermuda Island, UK
during WWII. They had two daughters, Suzann Greenwood of Bend and Cyndy Armour
(husband, Phil) of Prineville. Bernice also had one grandson, Brandon Follose
(wife Miranda) and one great-granddaughter, Samantha of Bend, Ore. Bernice
always said it's the quality, not the quantity, that counts.

Bernice was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She
served her whole life in positions of service to her church. Bernice and Harold
were married again, this time for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple
in 1945, when they got back to the states from Bermuda. She and Harold served a
mission for their church in Houston, Texas, after their respective retirements.

Bernice was a school teacher, librarian, clerk typist and secretary as she
followed Harold while he served in the military and as he pursued his education.
While living in Pocatello, Idaho, and then Bend, Bernice was able to do what she
loved best – teach. Bernice taught at Juniper Elementary School in Bend for 16
years before her retirement in 1983.

Bernice is survived by her husband, Harold, her two daughters, Suzann and Cyndy,
son-in-law Phil, grandson Brandon, his wife Miranda and their daughter,
Samantha. She is also survived by her older sister, Augusta, one older brother,
Owen Jr., and one younger brother, Robert, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held in Bend.
