Daughter of the late Ellis McRay McCorkle and Tina Helms McCorkle, she was the widow of Joseph Otto Brown. Additionally, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Hoyt McCorkle, Ellis McCorkle, Jr., Bruce Henry McCorkle and Gene McCorkle; and two sisters, Paulin Grubb and Jeanette Grossman. She was survived by a son and daugher-in-law, David and Jeannie Brown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jo and Chuck Smith and Trudy and Kevin Brookshire; two brothers, Jerry McCorkle and Carven McRay "Cobb" McCorkle; a sister, Bea Lefler; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was retired from a bank as a teller. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cherryville and a former longtime member of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. Her funeral was held May 9, 2009, at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe and The Rev. Jeff Pinkston officiating.
