Margie Brown Arnell Mrs. Arnell, of Charlotte, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, born May 13, 1924 in Gastonia, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord on April 7, 2012. Margie was born into humble beginnings, the daughter of mill electrician Humphrey Brown and wife Florence Queen Brown, but had many exciting adventures during her 87 years. She grew up in Belmont and Mount Holly, but lived in Maryland, New York and Florida before eventually coming home to North Carolina. Margie is survived by her husband, Howard Arnell, whom she met while they were both employed at Western Union in New York. They were married for 45 years. Margie is also survived by 4 children Margie was preceded in death by another son, Tommy Broffman. She is survived by one brother, Jack Brown, and was preceded in death by brother Robert Brown Jr. and sister, Mary Evelyn Young. She had 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Margie, a breast cancer survivor, led a fascinating life. She traveled Europe extensively and once dined with Mother Theresa. She worked in an artillery shell plant during World War II and played on women's softball and basketball teams. Margie worked for the NYPD for many years and was active in the union. Her union activities led her to many social gatherings, including an event at the White House where she met then First Lady Rosalynn Carter. Margie was adored by many and will be deeply missed. Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Lowe Funeral Home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road in Matthews with burial following at Sunset Memory Gardens. Family will receive guests from 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 13 at Lowe Funeral Home.
