Karen Larae Allyn, age 74, of Red Wing, died Friday, September 18, 2015 at the Red Wing Health Community.

She was born May 20, 1941 in Minneapolis and adopted by Wesley and Hazel (Persig) Brown. She grew up in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1959. She then attended Winona State University and later moved back to Red Wing to help care for her father. She married Robert Allyn on September 12, 1964 at United Lutheran Church. Karen worked for Jostens for 23 years. She was a member of United Lutheran Church and Star Craft Camping Club, along with several knitting groups. She enjoyed baking, cooking, music, and reading. She was very crafty and enjoyed sewing and knitting. She could knit a mitten an hour and donated much of her knitting to church. Karen also enjoyed traveling and spent her winters in Arizona.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert of Red Wing; daughters, Julie (Gary) Pribnow of Centerville, MN and Sue Allyn of Barron, WI; grandson, Beau Allyn of Red Wing; great-grandchild Vyvyan Allyn of Red Wing; brother, Jim Brown of New York; and aunt, Edna Martenson of Red Wing. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Hazel Brown.

Private services will be held at United Lutheran Church. Memorials are preferred to Mayo Hospice. Arrangements with the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
