Mne Brown was killed in an explosion while on a foot patrol near Patrol Base Almas in the Sangin district of Helmand province.
Aged 25, he was born in Frimley, Surrey and lived in Burtle, Somerset. He enlisted in October 2004, passed for duty as a Royal Marines Commando in September 2005 and was immediately deployed to Iraq for three months. He subsequently deployed on numerous exercises, including jungle warfare training in Sierra Leone, and specialised as a signaller in 2007. He previously served in Kajaki, Afghanistan starting in October 2007. In 2009 he took part in a large-scale amphibious exercise, operating in the eastern Mediterranean, the Persian Gulf, the Indian Ocean, the Malay Peninsula and Brunei. He deployed on his second Afghanistan tour in April 2010. Called "Ads" by his friends, he was instantly likeable with his great personality and a quick, dry wit. Senior officers lauded him as a consummate professional, the Marine that everyone wanted to work with.
Mne Brown leaves behind his wife Amy, parents Jenny and Robert, brothers Stephen and James, sister Laura, extended family and many friends. Among their many tributes, he was called a true inspiration to all who knew him and a man bigger than life. His parents said, "You will be sorely missed by both your immediate and wider family. Your death has broken all our hearts."
Funeral with full military honours will be held on August 18, 2010 at St Peter's Church, Yateley, Hampshire.
